ZAGREB, Feb 13 (Hina) - The Croatian government will discuss on Thursday measures aimed at removing obstacles to foreign investments in Croatia and the work of its Office for State Property in 2001. The implementation action plan for
the removal of obstacles to foreign investments is a document based on a Foreign Investment Advisory Service (FIAS) study on administrative obstacles to foreign investments in Croatia. ZAGREB, Feb 13 (Hina) - The Croatian government will discuss on
Thursday measures aimed at removing obstacles to foreign
investments in Croatia and the work of its Office for State Property
in 2001.
The implementation action plan for the removal of obstacles to
foreign investments is a document based on a Foreign Investment
Advisory Service (FIAS) study on administrative obstacles to
foreign investments in Croatia.
As recently announced by Deputy Prime Minister Slavko Linic, the
government measures should help facilitate the issuing of work and
operating permits for foreign nationals at one place - the Interior
Ministry - within 30 days, so that businessmen can register their
companies and start working within that period. This should also
considerably reduce costs for the establishment of companies.
The implementation plan defines measures regulating the entering
of investors on the Croatian market (operating and work permits),
the registration of companies, and other procedures relevant for
starting a business activity. The measures also refer to problems
such as locating businesses (establishing ownership over real
estate, construction land, permits) and the business regime
(communication with tax and customs authorities).
The plan defines problems, suggested solutions, determines project
bearers and sets deadlines in each of these segments. For example,
the Interior Ministry is expected to propose a new bill on
foreigners by the end of March.
In a report on its work in 2001, which will be submitted to the
government tomorrow, the Office for State Property estimates that
significant progress has been achieved with regard to care for
state property. The Office has so far registered around 500 cases of
state-owned real estate which is being used by bodies of state
administration or self-government. However, information required
for the registration has been provided so far by 19 of 32 bodies of
state administration.
The government will also discuss a report on the work of the
government's Office for Missing and Detained Persons in 2001. Last
year the Office shed light on the fate of 166 detained and missing
persons and is still tracing 1,041 persons who were imprisoned or
went missing during the Homeland War.
