NEW YORK, Jan 18 (Hina) - UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Thursday informed the U.N. Security Council of difficulties in the work of the interim administration in Kosovo (UNMIK) and stressed there were still serious threats to the
security of the local population. In his report, Annan said that over the past three months a local election had been held and the UNMIK was helping the establishment of local authorities. Annan warned that the people of Kosovo were not as yet entirely safe and called on Kosovo MPs to help create conditions which would stimulate inter-ethnic reconciliation. Commenting on a recent resignation of Hans Haekkerup, the UN Secretary-General said he would propose the new head of the UNMIK to the Security Council in the near future. The Security Council should discuss Annan's report and the situation in Kosovo on Monday.(hina) it
