ZAGREB, Feb 11 (Hina) - The implementation of a project introducing
cleaner production in Croatian economy began in Zagreb on Monday
with the holding of the first training course for representatives
of 13 domestic industrial companies.
"The Introduction of a Cleaner Production Strategy in the National
Economy of Croatia", a project financed by the Norwegian government
with EUR430,000, aims to contribute to economic growth and the
reduction of unfavourable effects on the environment through the
introduction of a cleaner production strategy. Its purpose is
building a national infrastructure which will ensure a broader
application of cleaner production in Croatian economy.
The bearers of the project are the Croatian Centre for Cleaner
Production and the Oslo-based Norwegian National Institute for
Technology, and is co-sponsored by the Croatian environmental
protection and zoning and economy ministries.
This is only one of several projects envisaged in a bilateral
cooperation programme between the Croatian and Norwegian
governments, Norwegian Ambassador Knut Toraasen said, adding that
last year this cooperation resulted in a turnover of 100 million
kuna (EUR13.26 million).
Norway launched the first cleaner production programme in Poland in
1990, and financially assisted the implementation of similar
programmes in 20 countries of Eastern Europe, Latin America, and
Asia.
Ambassador Toraasen maintains cleaner production should be the
basic strategy in every country.
