ZAGREB, Jan 22 (Hina) - The assets of 43 Croatian business banks at the end of September last year exceeded 130 billion kuna (EUR17.26 billion), which is an increase of 16.4 percent as against the same time in 2000, the Croatian
National Bank said on its web pages. Foreign banks own 88.5 percent of all assets in the Croatian banking system, private domestic banks own 6.1, and state-owned banks 5.5 percent. Twenty-three of the 43 business banks are foreign, 17 are private domestic banks, and three are state-owned, although the state will own only two after last week's approval of London's Chalemagne Capital's offer to buy Dubrovacka Banka. The two largest banks accounted for 45 percent and the four biggest ones for 60 percent of all assets.(hina) ha sb
