ZAGREB, Dec 28 (Hina) - Croatia's signing of the Bologna Declaration - a process of the harmonisation of higher education in Europe - and the marking of five decades of the work of the "Rudjer Boskovic" Institute are in particular
important events for higher education and science in Croatia in 2001. By signing the Bologna Declaration at a ministerial conference in Prague on May 18, 2001, Croatia committed itself and expressed readiness to take part in the harmonisation of higher education in Europe. The biggest and the greatest science institution in Croatia - The "Rudjer Boskovic" Institute (IRB) - celebrated the 50th anniversary and decided to make the institute a node in the European institutes' network. So far, 700 doctorate, 850 master and over 800 graduate works have been completed at the institute, while 160 young researchers, who should be enabled to continue their scientific careers in

The Croatian parliament had established a national science
foundation at the end of 2001 in order to stimulate the development
of science.
