Bozanic, who is also president of the Croatian Bishops' Conference,
wished the prime minister and his government "every blessing in their
work for the benefit and progress of the Croatian people and all
citizens of the Republic of Croatia".
In his message, the Cardinal appealed to the government to "respect
the historical, cultural and religious orientation of the Croatian
people".
Bozanic recalled the third visit of Pope John Paul II to Croatia in
June, when the pontiff said that efforts should be made to promote
possibilities of employment, social welfare and education and to
remove all forms of poverty and inequality in an environment of good
relations with neighbouring countries.
Bozanic said he was praying for members of parliament "to justify the
hopes of the people at this historic moment".
