MOSTAR, Dec 21 (Hina) - The Chairman of the Council of Ministers of
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Adnan Terzic, said on Sunday his country would
most probably delay implementing a free trade agreement with Croatia,
Serbia and Montenegro that was due to go into force on January 1,
2004.#L#
Such a decision might be adopted because of negative effects the
agreement might have on agricultural and food producers in
Bosnia-Herzegovina.
At a meeting in Sarajevo on Sunday, Terzic supported demands by
Bosnian farmers for the introduction of a duty-free regime to be
delayed, despite his earlier claims that there would be no delay
because it would stop Bosnia-Herzegovina from joining the World Trade
Organisation.
Farmers in turn promised Terzic they would scrap their plan to stage
massive protest rallies and block border crossings before the New
Year.
The two sides agreed to set up a commission consisting of agricultural
producers and government representatives to formulate amendments to
the Law on Customs Tariffs to protect domestic agricultural
production.
