"I insisted that authority should withdraw from sports, culture and
the media and I hope that such practice will be resumed by those who
will succeed us," Racan said at a New Year's and Christmas reception
he gave for journalists covering the government's work and media
editors in Zagreb on Monday.
He said that no member of his government had ever thought of
intervening with media editors, although they sometimes were not
satisfied with media coverage.
"I hope that this relationship towards the media will resume and
that this level of democracy will not be brought into question,"
Racan said.
