ZAGREB, Dec 14 (Hina) - The exhibition "Art Nouveau in Croatia", featuring Croatian art between 1897 and the end of World War I in 1918, was opened at the Museum of Art and Crafts by Culture Minister Antun Vujic on Sunday. #L# The show features a set of topics which present events and persons from the period of Art Nouveau in Croatia. Some topics are presented with more than 1,000 exhibits from the areas of architecture, visual art, sculpture, graphics, graphic design and crafts (furniture design, metal, ceramic and glass design, as well as fashion). Art Nouveau in Croatia emerged at the same time as relevant cultural and artistic developments in other European countries, where they were called Sezession (in Austria), Jugendstil (Germany), Art Nouveau (France and England) and Modern Style (England). What was common for these movements was their breaking away with the traditional, academic art of the 19th century. In Croatia, Art Nouveau laid foundations for the development of 20th century art. One part of the exhibition will be staged in the building of the Croatian State Archive, one of the most representative examples of Croatian Art Nouveau. The exhibition closes on March 31. (hina) ms
