Government", initiated by attorneys representing retired general
Ante Gotovina, who seek access to documents about their client the
government sent to the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague, should
start at the Zagreb Municipal Court on Friday. #L#
The proceedings are being repeated after the Zagreb County Court in
October 2002 quashed a verdict ordering the government to provide
Gotovina's attorneys with the relevant documentation it had sent to
the UN tribunal.
The proceedings will be conducted by a three-member panel of
judges, chaired by Slavko Pavkovic, which that June passed the
verdict which was later quashed.
Retired general Ante Gotovina was indicted in June 2001 by the UN
tribunal for crimes against humanity and violations of the laws and
customs of war committed against the Serb population during the
1995 operation "Storm".
Gotovina has been at large since, and Interpol has issued a warrant
for his arrest.
