ZAGREB, Nov 24 (Hina) - The president of the Croatian Peasant Party
(HSS), Zlatko Tomcic, said early Monday morning his party was not
satisfied with the election results. #L#
We expected about 20 seats in parliament and we will win maybe 12 or
13, Tomcic told reporters.
The HSS, however, will continue to tip the scales, Tomcic said,
adding that negotiations with potential partners would start in the
next several day. He said the negotiations would be very long.
The HSS president said that his party did not rule out the
possibility of forming a coalition with the Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ) or the Social Democratic Party (SDP), reiterating that
the HSS was not exclusive regarding the orientation of potential
partners.
He said the HSS was open to cooperation with almost all parties
because those which passed the election threshold were not
exclusively right or left.
Tomcic said the Croatian Party of Rights was not a right wing party
because it had gone through serious changes over the past few
years.
The HSS president strongly dismissed speculations about possible
trade-offs in forming coalitions, stressing that his party would
accept coalition partners who are willing to accept HSS
standpoints, namely its concepts of an integral national economy, a
government comprised of experts, and a stronger parliament.
We will hold several rounds of negotiations with everyone and we are
aware that or conditions are very demanding, Tomcic said.
He said he did not intend to take any measures over the party's poor
election results. He added, though, that the party membership would
have the final say.
