RIJEKA, Nov 19 (Hina) - The coalition of the Social Democratic Party
(SDP) and the Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) held an election
rally in the northern Adriatic port city of Rijeka on Wednesday to
present its platform and candidates in constituency no. 8. #L#
Addressing the rally, SDP leader Ivica Racan said that the
forthcoming elections would not decide "whether Croatia will go
left or right, but whether it will go forwards or backwards."
Racan said that the present government had not done everything it
should have or quickly enough, but that he was proud of what it had
done.
The SDP/IDS list in this constituency is headed by Damir Kajin of
the IDS, who said that this coalition was not afraid of the Croatian
Democratic Union (HDZ), but of "revenge, nationalism, isolationism
and obsession with ethnic origin," which he said were the main
characteristics of the HDZ's policy while it was in power.
"People are wrong if they think that those who took them into total
isolation in the 1990s will bring stability to Croatia," Kajin
said.
