ZAGREB, Nov 17 (Hina) - During his visit to the Croatian Academy of
Arts and Sciences (HAZU) on Monday, Prime Minister Ivica Racan said
that this leading Croatian scientific and cultural institution
could be the force to encourage a discussion on "the geostrategic
position of Croatia as its main potential for development." #L#
Croatia has not sufficiently used its geostrategic position as a
country that should connect geographically and historically
different parts of Europe, Racan said.
Croatia should consider ways in which it could act as a link between
different cultures and areas of Europe, at the same time protecting
its national identity, he said.
During talks with HAZU president Ivo Padovan and his associates,
the prime minister stressed the need for a systematic presentation
of Croatia's rich cultural and scientific past.
Padovan asked Racan to support the HAZU in its efforts to convert
the building housing the Institute of Chemistry into a HAZU
Library.
