According to the statement, Mesic informed the German chancellor of
Croatia's standpoints regarding European association as well as of
his view of the situation in Southeast Europe. The talks also
focused on cooperation with the UN war crimes tribunal at the Hague
and the return of refugees.
Schroeder expressed satisfaction with Croatia's cooperation with
the Hague tribunal, adding that good regional cooperation was a
condition for Croatia's admission to the EU, the statement said.
The talks also focused on Croatian-German economic cooperation,
for which the German chancellor said was below possibilities.
Also present at the talks were the two officials' associates and the
German and Croatian ambassadors.
