THE HAGUE/ZAGREB, Oct 22 (Hina) - The spokeswoman for the office of the prosecutor of the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague, Florence Hartmann, on Wednesday would not confirm or deny the information that the prosecutor's office had dropped charges against Croatian army general Luka Dzanko.
#L# Dzanko's lawyer Nenad Boban was quoted by Croatia media on Wednesday as saying that he had been notified by tribunal investigator Ken Scott that the tribunal would not issue an indictment against his client. Scott questioned General Dzanko as a suspect in the tribunal's offices in Zagreb in July this year. No comment on that report. Investigators from the office of the prosecutor contact various people to inform them of their status, Hartmann told Hina by telephone. She added that the office of the prosecutor did not have the practice of giving information about investigators' contacts. "The prosecutor called me in my office on Monday and told me that the Hague tribunal would not issue any indictment against General Dzanko. They gave me the authority to inform my client and, if I thought it necessary, the public," attorney Nenad Boban told the Slobodna Dalmacija daily. The office of the prosecutor of the Hague tribunal suspected Dzanko of humanitarian law violations on the southern front where he was posted as a military commander from 1991 to 1993. (hina) vm
