"The prosecutor who questioned General Dzanko in Zagreb in July
called me by telephone (on Monday) and said the office of the
prosecutor would not issue an indictment against my client," Boban
told Hina.
Boban said he received no official written notification nor did he
expect any. No one was available for comment at the prosecutor's
office in The Hague on Tuesday.
"I would not want to go into the reasons of the decision of the
prosecutor's office to notify me in such an unusual way that it was
abandoning proceedings against Dzanko," he said.
The attorney said he believed that the detailed statement Dzanko
had given the tribunal investigators as a suspect in July played a
crucial role in the decision of the prosecutor's office.
Dzanko was charged with violations of humanitarian law on the
southern front where he had served as one of the Croatian army
commanders.
