HSLS LEADER SAYS OPPOSITION PARTIES TO WIN ELECTIONS

DUBROVNIK, Oct 14 (Hina) - Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) leader Drazen Budisa said on Tuesday that opposition parties would win the forthcoming parliamentary elections and form a new coalition government. #L# Speaking at a press conference in Dubrovnik, Budisa said that, based on the present mood of the public, between 65 and 70 per cent of voters supported centrist and centre-right parties, while 30 per cent backed leftist parties. "Most of the votes will go to the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ). The Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its satellites will be second, and the coalition of the HSLS and the Democratic Centre (DC) will be third, winning between 20 and 25 seats in the new parliament," Budisa said. Commenting on the report which the chief prosecutor of the UN war crimes tribunal, Carla Del Ponte, submitted to EU foreign ministers on Monday, Budisa said that the report was more sharply worded than one presented to the UN Security Council and that it contained some new elements regarding relations between Croatia and the office of the prosecutor. "Her accusations against Croatian government institutions are very harsh. Carla Del Ponte has lost credibility just as the Croatian government has," the HSLS president said, adding that her report was a result of the inappropriate position of the Croatian government towards the Hague tribunal.
