SISAK, Oct 11 (Hina) - The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ)
President, Ivo Sanader, has asserted that his party will for sure
win the coming parliamentary elections and will be capable of
forming a new government together with partners, namely centrist
and right-centrist parties. #L#
"A survey made by American IRI says that the HDZ may win 28 percent
of the vote, while the opinion polls conducted by the HDZ on its own
show that it will muster some 35-36 percent of ballots," Sanader
told a party rally in the town of Sisak (50 kilometres south-east of
Zagreb) on Saturday.
Sanader extended apologies "on behalf of HDZ members and the
Croatian people" to the new Apostolic Nuncio to Croatia, Francisco
Javier Lozano, for "the failure of the state authorities to welcome
him when he officially arrived at the Zagreb airport", which the HDZ
leader said was contrary to diplomatic rules.
Sanader labelled the conduct of the authorities as scandalous and
shameful in this case, and this is yet another reason, he said, to
give the red card to the incumbent Premier Ivica Racan and his
ruling coalition at the coming ballot.
The chief of the strongest opposition party accused the incumbent
authorities of "isolating and humiliating the Croatian Diaspora".
He warned that some 40 days prior to the ballot, the authorities
still made no preparations with the aim of making it possible for
the Diaspora to vote in the 23 November elections.
If necessary, the HDZ will organise the transport (of emigrants) so
that all Croats in the Diaspora can vote, as each vote is important
for Croatia's future, Sanader said.
