ZAGREB, Oct 9 (Hina) - The United States has offered a $5 million reward for reliable information on the whereabouts of a fugitive Croatian army general sought by the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague, a US envoy has said in a newspaper interview. #L# "The United States government has offered five million US dollars for credible information leading to the Hague tribunal suspect, retired Croatian general Ante Gotovina," the US ambassador-at- large for war crimes issues, Pierre-Richard Prosper, has said in an interview with the Zagreb-based Jutarnji List daily published on Thursday. Prosper said that by offering such a high reward his country wanted to help the Croatian government apprehend the runaway general, and that the informer, if he so wished, would be guaranteed full identity protection and relocation to any part of the world, including the US. On Tuesday, following a meeting with Justice Minister Ingrid Anticevic Marinovic and Chief State Prosecutor Mladen Bajic, the US ambassador said that despite the Croatian government's assurances, the US had no reason to believe that Gotovina was outside Croatia and that his country expected the Croatian government to solve this issue. He also warned that the problem of general Gotovina was a potential obstacle to Croatia entering European institutions. In the interview, Prosper offered Croatia technical assistance in discovering Gotovina's whereabouts. (hina) vm
