SARAJEVO, Oct 7 (Hina) - U.S. Ambassador in charge of war crimes
issues Pierre Richard Prosper has said his government is prepared
to support harsh measures against Croatia should the ICTY chief
prosecutor Carla Del Ponte request so, Dnevni Avaz daily reported

If prosecutor Del Ponte requests some harsh measures against
Croatia because of General Gotovina, the United States will support
her. The United States is actively included in the resolving of this
issue with the Croatian authorities and it believes that Zagreb can
do more, Ambassador Prosper told Sarajevo's daily.
The same will apply to other countries in the region in case the UN
war crimes tribunal at The Hague requests new measures because of
Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic, the U.S. ambassador said.
He stressed that in case the U.S. took such measures against Croatia
it would affect Croatia's efforts to join the EU.
Prosper is on a two-day visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina. After talking
to members of the Bosnian Presidency and the Council of Ministers in
Sarajevo on Monday, Prosper travelled to Banja Luka on Tuesday to
meet Bosnian Serb senior officials.
Talking about Washington's standpoint regarding those responsible
for war crimes in Bosnia, Prosper said the country would not be able
to join the Partnership for Peace programme as long as Radovan
Karadzic was at large. The authorities in Republika Srpska must
prove they are ready to cooperate in arresting Karadzic, said the
ambassador.
The same applies to Serbia and Montenegro which is expected to
arrest Ratko Mladic, Prosper said.
