The research results show that there have been no significant
changes in Croatia as the corruption perception index is the same as
before. Last year the perception index was 3.8 and the year before
3.9.
According to the corruption research, Croatia is in the middle of
the scale, sharing the 59th place with Columbia, Salvador, Peru and
Slovakia.
Among transition countries, Croatia, along with Bulgaria,
Slovakia, Poland and Latvia, is in a better position than Russia,
Romania, Albania, Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, and its neighbours
Serbia-Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Macedonia.
In comparison with developed transition countries, Croatia's
results are less favourable. Slovenia is 29th with the same
assessment results for years - 5.9, and Estonia is 33rd with 5.5.
The Czech Republic, Hungary, with whom Croatia shared the
assessment for year, have surpassed Croatia this year with an
assessment of 4.3.
Transparency International has been conducting the corruption
perception index research since 1995. The research has been
conducted in Croatia since 1999.
In 1999 Croatia was 71st with an index of 2.7. After change of
government in 2000, the perception index rose to 3.7 and Croatia
climbed to 51st place.
According to the Transparency International research, most
corrupted countries are Bangladesh, Nigeria and Haiti, while
Finland, Island and Denmark are considered to be countries with
