Stressing the historic importance of the decision 12 years ago to
sever all constitutional and legal ties with the former Yugoslav
federation, Racan said that Croatia was now facing new challenges
and goals on its path to the European Union.
"We have initiated the process of difficult, yet worthwhile reforms
in order to ensure conditions for economic development and adjust
Croatian standards as much as possible to those of the European
Union. It is our responsibility to successfully join Croatia to the
family of European countries and create conditions to the benefit
of our country and citizens," Racan said in his message.
