ZAGREB, Oct 3 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan will
receive the chief prosecutor of the UN war crimes tribunal at the
Hague (ICTY), Carla Del Ponte, on Monday. Del Ponte will arrive in
Zagreb for a day-long visit. #L#
She is expected to submit a report on the work of the Prosecutor's
Office to the UN Security Council on October 9.
The meeting will also be attended by Deputy PM Goran Granic, Justice
Minister Ingrid Anticevic Marinovic, the head of the government's
office for cooperation with the ICTY and international criminal
courts, Jaksa Muljacic, Police Chief Ranko Ostojic and Chief State
Prosecutor Mladen Bajic, the government said in a statement.
The government expects Del Ponte to confirm in Zagreb that the ICTY
prosecution encountered no problems while seeking assistance from
the authorities in Croatia.
At a meeting between Granic and Del Ponte, held in The Hague on
September 26, it was said that the main unsolved problem in
Croatia's cooperation with the tribunal was the issue of the arrest
of General Ante Gotovina, who has been at large for over two years.
At that meeting, Del Ponte dismissed the Croatian delegation's
claims that according to all available data Gotovina was not in
Croatia and that Croatian authorities could not arrest him. She
insisted the fugitive general was in Croatia. Other segments of
Croatia's cooperation with the ICTY, such as the hand-over of
requested documents, were assessed as satisfactory.
