Granic will on Thursday fly to The Hague to meet the UN war crimes
tribunal's chief prosecutor, Carla Del Ponte, the government's
public relations office reported on Tuesday. #L#
Earlier this month, Del Ponte compiled a non-paper in which she
described cooperation with Croatia as advanced but still not
entirely satisfactory.
The main objection of the chief prosecutor of the tribunal for the
former Yugoslavia (ICTY) refers to the unsolved case of Croatian
General Ante Gotovina who has been on the run for two years.
Granic has recently stated that Zagreb will have to notify the ICTY
that it cannot carry out the warrant for Gotovina's arrest, as the
government has no relevant information about his whereabouts.
Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Simonovic on Monday said in Brussels
that the Ivica Racan Cabinet had sent a detailed report to the
Hague-based tribunal on efforts it was investing in order to settle
the Gotovina case.
