A philosopher of international reputation and honorary doctor of
Zagreb University, Vaughan Wilkes died in Oxford on August 21 at the
age of 58. She deserves special credit for staying in Dubrovnik and
bearing witness to the most difficult moments for the city and its
residents during the 1991 siege, which lasted several months.
Vaughan Wilkes (Radley, 1946 - Oxford, 2003) was a professor at
Oxford University and a long-standing chairperson of the Executive
Council of Dubrovnik's Inter-University Centre (IUC). She also
headed a number of post-graduate programmes at the IUC, including
the Philosophy and Science course.
