Pasalic announced he and HIP president Miroslav Tudjman would
present the coalition's final slates next week.
Talking to reporters in Split, Pasalic said HB and HIP were the only
alternative.
The Croatian Democratic Union and the Social Democratic Party are
saying the same things about the economy and cooperation with the
Hague war crimes tribunal for the former Yugoslavia only so that
foreign diplomats would view them as moderate, he added.
HB and HIP firmly believe a change of government in Croatia is
possible, but if they are part of the ruling coalition, Pasalic
said. "We won't enter a coalition at any cost. We first have to agree
on key national issues and only then discuss the division of
posts."
Pasalic said that as far as HB and HIP were concerned, no compromise
was possible with regard to the extradition of fugitive general
Ante Gotovina to the Hague tribunal.
Asked if charges recently filed against him on suspicion that he had
taken part in the unlawful spending of state money might undermine
his success at the parliamentary polls, Pasalic said he viewed the
whole affair as free publicity.
