Unidentified persons in a car fired three shots in front of the
government building around 8.30 pm on Saturday, Serbian police
reported on Sunday morning.
Authority representatives said the incident showed the state had
still not ended the fight against organised crime.
The incident occurred three days before Zeljko Maksimovic's
criminal gang is due to go on trial and a day after the six-month
anniversary of the slaying of Serbian Prime Minister Zoran
Djindjic.
Serbian Deputy PM Zarko Korac told Radio B92 the intention of the
criminals was to give a message to Serbia's government and citizens
which he added should not be underestimated. Creating scandals and
chaos on Serbia's political scene is once again encouraging those
who see their chance of survival only in chaos, he said.
