ZAGREB, Sept 12 (Hina) - The Croatian Ministry of Maritime Affairs,
Transport and Communications on Friday strongly condemned the
announcement by trade unions about a possible blockade of seaports
later this month. #L#
The ministry said such a move would damage the Croatian economy, and
called on the unionists to settle open issues through dialogue with
the government.
On Thursday, the co-ordinating body of 11 trade unions of workers
employed in the ports of Sibenik, Split, Ploce and Dubrovnik
announced it would blockade the ports for one hour on September 25
unless the government withdraw the bill on maritime domain and sea
ports from parliamentary procedure.
The unions complained that the bill would deprive port workers of
all of their acquired rights and legalise the injustices done
during the privatisation process.
