In an interview with the leading Slovene daily Delo, published on
Monday ahead of his visit to Ljubljana, Illy called on Slovenia "to
start thinking in a European way".
Speaking of the road between Trieste and Rijeka, he said that
"Slovenia intends to isolate Croatia by obstructing plans for the
construction of this road".
Isolating neighbouring countries is contrary to the spirit of
modern Europe and free trade, and leads to the spirit of the Middle
Ages, he added.
