ZAGREB, Sept 8 (Hina) - Employment in Croatia in July went up for the fifth consecutive month, 0.7 percent from June, while unemployment in August was also down, a trend which began in April 2002.

fifth consecutive month, 0.7 percent from June, while unemployment

There were 1,381,796 employed people in Croatia in July, of which
623,803 were women, the Central Bureau of Statistics said on
Monday.
The number of the jobless at the end of August was 306,594, down 2.4
percent from July and 19.3 percent from August 2002, the Croatian
Employment Bureau said.
Manager Sanja Crnkovic-Pozaic pointed to age discrimination on the
labour market. Older persons have to wait much longer for a job,
independently of qualifications, while women on average wait
longer than men.
