environmental protection on Thursday, some parliamentary parties
strongly opposed provisions envisaging the possibility of
intentional introduction of genetically modified organisms into
the environment. #L#
The final bill provides for the cross-border transfer, transit,
limited use and intentional introduction into the environment of
genetically modified organisms (GMO).
Dorica Nikolic of the Social Liberal Party (HSLS) accused the
Environment Ministry of deceiving the public with its "GMO-free
Croatia" proclamation, saying that the ministry now allowed not
only the import and production of GMO, but also their introduction
into the environment.
The HSLS and several other parties said they would vote against the
bill.
