The fire on Mount Ucka is still burning and is threatening the
village of Mala Ucka.
The fire on the southern island of Hvar has spread southwest to the
bay of Poscena, where firefighters managed to prevent the houses
from catching fire. The blaze is also spreading to the northeast
where firefighters are trying to defend a dense pine forest. The
fire has affected an additional 500 hectares of underbrush, pine
wood and farm crops.
The fire that erupted in the Zaton area near the central Adriatic
city of Sibenik at about 1600 hours was contained at about 2000
hours, local fire officials said. About 35 hectares of pine forest,
underbrush, olive groves and vineyards were consumed by the blaze.
The fire in the eastern part of Mount Velebit has been put out and is
no longer threatening Paklenica National Park, the National Fire
Centre said in the evening.
A new fire broke out in the village of Perkovic-Primorski Dolac at
1420 hours. Firefighters cannot put the fire out because the area is
strewn with land mines left from the 1990s war, but are keeping a
watchful eye on it, the Fire Centre said.
