LJUBLJANA, Aug 12 (Hina) - Slovenia and Croatia are discussing a

Minister Franci But told the Slovene news agency STA Tuesday. #L#
According to But, the meeting will happen probably in early
September and its date and location will be agreed with the Croatian
side by the end of this week.
Slovene diplomatic sources and political parties have reacted
vehemently to an announcement published on the web pages of the
Croatian foreign ministry that Croatia is intending to proclaim an
economic zone in the Adriatic.
Slovene political sources and parties placed the announcement in
"the pre-electoral context" in Croatia, pointing to the role of the
Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) as a party which "tips the scales" on
the Croatian political scene and has great influence in
government.
Today But held talks with EU Agriculture and Fisheries Commissioner
Franz Fischler about Croatia's intention to, together with Italy,
establish an economic belt in the Adriatic.
The Slovene side has already requested talks with the competent
Italian minister and has announced official talks with Fischler in
Brussels in early September, But said.
