MESIC SAYS ECONOMIC ZONE NOT POLITICAL BUT ECONOMIC ISSUE

TROGIR, Aug 8 (Hina) - President Stjepan Mesic said on Friday that proclamation of an exclusive economic zone in the Adriatic was not a political, but economic issue which Croatia should resolve through talks with its neighbours. "The concern of the Slovenes over the proclamation of the economic zone is unfounded. They must realise that it is also better for them if Croatia has better control of its sea," Mesic told reporters during a visit to the southern coastal town of Trogir. The president was responding to questions regarding current political and economic issues, including the case of Croatian Army General Ante Gotovina, who is wanted by the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.
