According to STA, But spoke with Fischler via the telephone about
Croatia's intention to, together with Italy, establish an economic
belt in the Adriatic. But wanted to know whether Croatia had spoken
with the EU about the issue and whether an agreement had been
reached.
According to But, the EU held talks with Croatia several months ago
and said it was interested in a rational and ecologically safe
management of maritime resources, as well as that it supported in
principle a slightly more restrictive policy in the issue.
However, Europe's stand is that an economic zone can be proclaimed
only with the agreement of all interested parties, and when it comes
to the Adriatic, this includes Slovenia, But relayed his
conversation with Fischler to STA.
