Slovenia plans to post 3,444 border guards along the 670km-long
border with Croatia, including the 500 customs officials and police
officers currently patrolling the borders with Austria and Italy.
Pogorevc said that 1,800 police officers have been trained to
control border crossings according to Schengen standards.
He added that Slovenia intended to purchase an additional police
helicopter and possibly a patrol boat for border control purposes.
"It's cheaper to pay police officers on the border than cover the
costs of numerous illegal refugees in the country itself," Pogorevc
said.
