ZAGREB, Aug 2 (Hina) - Croatia's bids to join the European Union are supported by two thirds of the country's citizens, while its entry into NATO would be hailed by over a half of citizens, according to results of an opinion poll, conducted by the GFK agency. #L# According to the poll's results, presented in the ministry of the European integration last Thursday, 73.6 percent of respondents were for Croatia's accession into the EU, while 53.3 percent favoured the country's admission into the Alliance. Croatians' positions towards European integration processes are constant, with a mild increase of those opposing them and a mild decrease in the number of those who would like to see Croatia as an EU member. Most of those who do not support the country's entry into the EU and NATO are elderly persons and people with poorer education. On the other hand, most supporters are from classes of young and middle- aged people with higher education. This seventh regular opinion poll, which has been conducted every six months since June 2000, shows that 98% of Croatians have heard of the EU and 91% of respondents have heard of NATO. However, a half of them say they have no enough correct information about the Union. Citizens are mostly interested in the impact of the country's integration into the EU and NATO on the national economy and the standard of living, as well as in criteria Croatia has to meet to enter the said organisations.
