Attending were the ambassadors of 15 EU nations, 10 countries
expected to join in 2004, and representatives of Romania, Bulgaria,
and Turkey as admission candidates. Croatia was represented by the
deputy minister for European integration, Mirjana Mladineo.
The meeting addressed the schedule of future meetings at the level
of mission chiefs as well as cultural activities, Grafini said,
adding that Croatian Foreign Minister Tonino Picula would be the
first honorary guest at one such meeting in September.
Grafini said he spoke about Italy's priorities during its EU
presidency, which started on July 1, the importance Italy attached
to Croatia and Italy's support concerning the European
Commission's opinion of Croatia's application for EU candidate
status, which he said would be made in March.
The meeting also addressed the progress Croatia had achieved in
internal affairs and the economy, Grafini said, adding that Croatia
and Italy were neighbours sharing interests in business, tourism,
and transport.
Grafini was recently appointed Italy's new ambassador to Croatia.
