ZAGREB, Aug 1 (Hina) - Croatian President and the army's Supreme Commander, Stjepan Mesic, on Friday decided to promote 505 members of the Armed Forces to higher ranks, on the occasion of a national holiday, called the Victory Day and
Homeland Thanksgiving Day, celebrated on 5 August.
ZAGREB, Aug 1 (Hina) - Croatian President and the army's Supreme
Commander, Stjepan Mesic, on Friday decided to promote 505 members
of the Armed Forces to higher ranks, on the occasion of a national
holiday, called the Victory Day and Homeland Thanksgiving Day,
celebrated on 5 August. #L#
President Mesic made decisions on conferring higher ranks on 505
army staff, pursuant to his constitutional powers and relevant
laws.
Under Mesic's decision, Major General Darko Grdic becomes Four-
Star General.
Captains Zdenko Simicic and Vlado Grozdanic are promoted to the
rank of commodores.
Newly promoted brigadier generals are Mate Obradovic, Josip
Zvirotic, Zvonko Peternel and Vinko Stefanek (staff brigadiers so
far) as well as Dragutin Repinec, who has so far been brigadier.
According to Mesic's decision, 24 colonels are promoted to the rank
of brigadiers, one commander in the Navy becomes captain, 47 majors
are promoted to the rank of colonels etc.
Other promotions were performed among lower-ranked officers.
The decisions take effect on the day of their adoption, reads a
press release issued by the Office of the President.
