ZAGREB, June 23 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Monday
forwarded a message to all Croatian citizens on the occasion of
Statehood Day, June 25. #L#
"Statehood Day is an opportunity to recall our achievements, as
well as what remains to be done to realise our strategic goals -
membership in Euro-Atlantic associations, which means better
living standards and conditions for all our citizens.
Croatia's economy has been on the path of recovery for three years
now and a long-lasting Croatian dream - a road connecting the
country's inland with the coast - is finally becoming a reality.
Croatia is continuing comprehensive reforms of the judicial system
and state administration, as well as the development of civil
society and the rule of law.
This year Croatia made a decisive step - it submitted an application
for membership in the European Union, aware that further progress
will depend on its readiness and willingness to meet the set
conditions. I believe that we are on the right track. I wish all
Croatian citizens a happy Statehood Day," said Mesic in the
message.
On the occasion of the holiday, Mesic today conferred decorations
on 14 persons and five institutions for achievements in the areas of
culture, economy, education and sports.
