ZAGREB, June 23 (Hina) - Some 200 employees of the agricultural and
processing plant "Kutjevo" gathered in front of the Croatian
government building in Zagreb on Monday protesting against the
Croatian Privatisation Fund's (HFP) decision to sell only a part of
the plant. #L#
The leader of the plant's workers union, Vinko Jusic, said the union
demanded the cancellation of the HFP's decision of June 17 to sell
only a part of the plant instead of privatising it entirely, as
originally agreed. Jusic said the partial sale was in the interest
of groups which wanted to cause the disintegration of the farming
sector in Slavonia so they could make profit from imports.
The workers demand that the company "Bozjakovina", which they claim
is the only serious client for the purchase of the plant, again join
talks on the plant's sale. Bozjakovina initially negotiated about
the purchase of 94% of the plant but withdrew after the HFP decided
that only 76% of the plant would be sold.
The workers demand to meet Prime Minister Ivica Racan and threaten
to launch more radical action, including the blockade of roads, if
their demands are not met.
Before they arrived in front of the government building in St.
Mark's Square, the workers protested in front of the ministries of
agriculture and forestry and economy, and the HFP.
