PORTO CARRAS, June 20 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and Slovene Prime Minister Anton Rop met on Friday in Greece's Porto Carras, which tomorrow hosts a summit of European Union members and five South Eastern Europe
countries, Mesic's office said in a statement.

In the talks, arranged at Slovenia's initiative, Rop most
resolutely refuted press claims to the effect that he had allegedly
linked the success of Croatia's EU membership application to
negotiations on succession to the former Yugoslavia.
The talks also addressed bilateral cooperation and the importance
of the Porto Carras summit.
Also attending were Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrije Rupel, and
Croatia's Foreign Minister Tonino Picula and European Integration
Minister Neven Mimica.
European Commission President Romano Prodi also joined in the
talks, reiterating the positive stance towards Croatia's EU
membership application. He said he was looking forward to his visit
to Croatia likely to occur in mid-July.
Also tonight, Mesic held brief informal meetings with Bulgaria's
Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg Gotha and President Georgi
Prvanov, Serbia-Montenegro's President Svetozar Marovic, PM Zoran
Zivkovic, and Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic, Albanian
President Alfred Moisiu, and the chairman of Bosnia's state
presidency, Borislav Paravac.
The Croatian President also met German Chancellor Gerhard
Schroeder, Montenegrin PM Milo Djukanovic, the EU High
Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier
Solana, and Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel.
