SUBOTICA, June 19 (Hina) - Representatives of Croatia's Council for National Minorities on Thursday visited associations of the Croatian national minority in northern Serbia's province of Vojvodina. #L# "Our mission is to establish permanent contact with the Croatian community in Vojvodina, also to make it present in Croatia," the president of the Council, Alkesandar Tolnauer, said after talks in Subotica with the head of the North Backa District. Today's talks addressed the advancement of economic and cultural cooperation between Croatia and Serbia, said Tolnauer. Comparing the position of the Croatian minority in Serbia and that of ethnic minorities in Croatia, he said big steps had been made in Croatia with regard to minorities' rights, particularly with the implementation of the constitutional law on ethnic minorities. "We relayed our experiences to the hosts and in some way tried to guide the local Croatian minority and state authorities in Vojvodina and Serbia," said Tolnauer. He suggested bringing Croatian companies to North Backa District as soon as possible and establishing permanent economic ties between Croatian and Serbian businessmen. District head Dragan Rokvic was pleased with the talks, saying it was important that ethnic Croatian institutions were being set up in Vojvodina, such as the Croatian Academic Society or the Croatian National Council. Over their two days in Subotica, the Croatian delegation attended a panel discussion on multicultural forms of cooperation in a multinational environment, and was received at the Croatian National Council. Croatia set up its Council for National Minorities on April 16, under the constitutional law on ethnic minorities. (hina) ha
