Stressing the two countries' good relations, President Mesic told
reporters he and his Polish counterpart focused on the problems the
two countries were faced with today.
"Poland is indeed several steps ahead of us, but we will use
Poland's experience which will be of great significance to us,"
said Mesic and added Croatia wanted to achieve what Poland already
had -- joining NATO and the European Union.
"Croatia is taking a path that Poland has already taken and I
guarantee you that our country will strongly support Croatia to
join the EU and NATO as fast as possible," said Kwasniewski.
He said Polish businessmen expressed interest in investing into
Istria's tourism, adding that a Polish company has already
purchased a hotel in the area.
Poland's head of state said Istria was a very good place to invest in
tourism and hoped that in the future there would be more Polish
entrepreneurs in Croatia.
Commenting on Pope John Paul II's recent visit to Croatia,
Kwasniewski said the visit was a success and of a great significance
for Croatia.
"During my encounters with the Holy Father he constantly reiterated
how much he cared about this region and that he was giving a lot of
thought to it, particularly to the enlargement of the European
Union onto Slavic countries to correct the injustice those
countries suffered during the past regime," the Polish president
said.
