ZAGREB, June 12 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Thursday resumed its 33rd sitting by taking a vote on some 20 bills, using the electronic voting system. The bills were discussed at the last session. #L# After several previous failed attempts to use the new voting system, this morning MPs successfully voted using the new system and adopted with a majority vote government-sponsored changes to the Law on Social Care and accompanying amendments. The bill improves the quality of work in the social care system and gradually adjusts the rights of socially underprivileged persons, families and groups with the state's potential. Almost a half of some 20 proposed changes refer to benefits for the users of the social welfare system. Most MPs accepted an amendment by Social Democrat Snjezana Biga- Friganovic, under which the steering council of the Social Welfare Institute, which should be established under the bill, should have nine members, of whom five would be appointed by the social welfare minister and one each by the Croatian Association of Social Workers, the majority social care workers' union and experts. The parliament did not accept a proposal by Jadranka Kosor of the Croatian Democratic Union that the institute not be established because of lack of budgetary funds for that purpose. The Sabor accepted with a majority vote changes to the Law on the Protection of Military and Civilian War Invalids and changes to the Law on Compulsory and Voluntary Pension Funds. (hina) rml
