ZADAR, June 5 (Hina) - Participants in a two-day symposium on the
protection of the "Adriatic - Central European Sea Under Pressure"
forwarded a document, called Zadar Initiative - Adriatic Action
Plan, with a recommendation for its adoption to environment
protection ministers of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative, who will
meet tomorrow in Zadar. #L#
The aim of the plan is to contribute to ensuring an appropriate
level of protection of coastal and sea environment of the
Adriatic.
The plan foresees that environment protection ministers in
countries surrounding the Adriatic Sea should influence their
governments to ensure measures to implement programmes of
sustainable development and protection of the environment and
natural resources in the Adriatic sea.
The symposium, which ended this evening, was prepared by the
Croatian Environment and Protection Ministry and attracted 150
participants from Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovenia, Monaco
and representatives of the UN (UNEP, REMPEC, PAP/RAC, UNEP/MAP).
Details were presented of 24 ecological accidents last year in the
Croatian Adriatic. Twenty-one were oil spills, mostly from yachts
and other waste waters.
