The Ivica Racan Cabinet has decided to ask for the postponement in
applying the law because an asylum centre being built near Zagreb
will not be completed until then. The financing of the construction
of the centre, valued at six million kuna, is ensured under the
CARDS programme, and the procedure to obtain funding is quite
complicated and requires a certain amount of time, an explanation
of this amendment to the bill noted.
The implementation of the asylum bill, which is currently in
parliamentary proceeding, will require around four million kuna
per annum.
