Asked about the attitude of Public Works, Construction and
Reconstruction Minister Radimir Cacic in public, Mesic told
Croatian Radio today that one should differentiate the promotion of
ministers, which is calculated to advertise a person, from
promoting a successful work model.
"Croatia's road construction model is a successful one which
modernises Croatia, organises operational bodies excellently and
is conducted according to plan," Mesic said.
He said Croatia did not stand a chance if it did not modernise roads.
This model does not burden the budget, he added.
"After deferring the payment of loans, proceeds from fuel, vehicle
registrations and road tolls will exceed the amount of loan
instalments and bring in budgetary revenue," Mesic said.
He reiterated there was no misunderstanding between the
President's Office and the government regarding the solving of the
housing issue of returnees.
"It is not possible to restore tenancy rights because in order to do
that, social ownership must be restored. However, all people should
be secured accommodation and, based on valid laws, see which
concrete solutions are possible," he said.
He dismissed the writing of the media that he had contacted General
Ante Gotovina and his attorneys.
