ZAGREB, May 21 (Hina) - Croatian Vice-Premier Ante Simonic and US
Ambassador Lawrence Rossin met on Wednesday to discuss the
protection of intellectual property rights in the area of
pharmaceutical industry and the recently held minority elections,
the government said in a statement. #L#
Ambassador Rossin wanted to know when the Croatian parliament would
ratify the memorandum of understanding on the protection of
intellectual property rights, which the two governments signed on
28 May 1998.
Pharmaceutical companies from the USA are not adequately protected
without the memorandum, Rossin said, asking that the Croatian
government see that the document was ratified as soon as possible
and integrated adequately into the new law on medicines.
Vice-Premier Simonic informed Ambassador Rossin about the recent
elections for minority councils. He said this was the first time
such elections had been organised in Croatia and although there had
been some flaws, they did not affect the election results.
Simonic also acquainted the US ambassador with the national
programme for the Romany which defines a set of measures aimed at
improving the living conditions of the Romany community in
Croatia.
