SARAJEVO, May 25 (Hina) - A renowned man of letters, Mirko Kovac who has lived in Istria for more than a decade, on Saturday evening received the award which the society of writers of Bosnia-Herzegovina annually bestow on outstanding
writers from all over the world.

The award called Bosanki Stecak, named after unique medieval
Bosnian standing tomb-stones, was conferred to Kovac at the final
evening of an event dedicated to poetry in the capital of Sarajevo.
According to the decision for the selection of this year's
laureate, Kovac deserved the award for being as one of the greatest
and most consistent humanists and writers in south Slav areas and in
this part of Europe.
Previous laureates were Juan Goytisolo from Spain, Boris A. Novak
from Slovenia, Christopher Merrill from the United States and
Tadeusz Rozewicz from Poland.
